IT IS GOOD TO GIVE THANKS

In Touch 11/08
Thanksgiving is a great time to express gratitude toward God, but it shouldn't be the only time of year we do so. If we're honest about it, most of us will discover that our prayers are often more self-centered than we'd like to admit. It's easy to forget the many blessings God has given us, and instead focus on the things we want from Him. But giving thanks to our Lord is one of the most important priorities in the believer's life. "It is good to give thanks to the Lord and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your loving-kindness in the morning and Your faithfulness by night." Psalm 92:1-2

Giving thanks to God honors Him.
When we act in obedience by giving praise to the One who deserves it, we are in turn blessed. He is the author of every good thing and should receive all honor.
Giving thanks refocuses our attention. When we rush about, hurried by world's constant demands, we lose perspective, but if we begin each day by setting our minds on eternal things and expressing gratitude to the Lord, our attention returns to Him. In Philippians 4:6-7, Paul urges us not to give into worry. Instead we should bring God our requests with thanksgiving. Then, His peace will guard our hearts and minds against a world filled with anxiety and concern.

Giving thanks refreshes our relationship with God. Offering our gratitude to the Lord has a wonderful effect on our personal relationship with Him. As we declare His lovingkindness in the morning and His faithfulness at night, our spirits are rejuvenated. The Israelites remembered the mighty works of God. They recalled the miracle of the Red Sea and how He fed them on manna in the wilderness. When they kept these memories alive, their faith grew stronger. As you remember the things God has done for you, your faith is reinforced. Giving Thanks is something you can do any time, any time, any place. Why not take a few moments right now to reflect on the greatness of God and the gifts He has given you? Why not begtin every morning with a song of praise and gratitude in your heart?

OLD TIMER'S SUNDAY-A LITTLE CHURCH HUMOR

Our church has instigated a special day - Old Timer's Sunday. This year Glenn Calebs brought in his horse and buggy with a hand-lettered sign that read:
"Energy effcient vehicle. Runs on oats and grass.
Caution: Do not step in exhaust."
